Your base for the slopes, the trails, and whatever lies beyond the next ridge. This is as high as a hotel gets in the Balkans.
Hotel Residence Shara stands at 1,810 metres, precisely at the frontier between two worlds. On one side, the vast, untamed wilderness of Shar Planina, one of the most biodiverse and dramatically beautiful mountain massifs in Southeast Europe, now protected as a National Park. On the other, a rare thing in this part of the world: a fully functioning, high-altitude mountain community, with ski slopes reaching 2,550 metres and free-ride terrain beyond.
High-altitude ski centres of this kind are extraordinarily rare in the Balkans, and rarer still elsewhere. To find a hotel sitting at the very heart of such a place, at such elevation, is something that simply does not happen often. We are not merely close to the mountain. We are of it.
We carry this responsibility forward, in the materials we build with, the partnerships we keep with ski schools, clubs, mountaineering associations and mountain rescue teams, and in our deep commitment to the culture and community of these peaks. Shar Planina is not a backdrop. It is our reason for being here.
Our reservations team is here to ensure your stay exceeds every expectation. Fill in the form or reach us directly, we respond within 2 hours.

Hotel Residence Shara sits at 1,810 metres above sea level, at the exact frontier between two worlds. To one side lies the vast, untamed wilderness of Shar Planina, one of the most biodiverse and scenically dramatic mountain massifs in all of Southeast Europe. To the other, something extraordinarily rare: a fully functioning, high-altitude ski and mountain community, with groomed slopes climbing to 2,550 metres and open free-ride terrain rising above that.
High-altitude ski centres of this calibre are rare in the Balkans. Hotels sitting at the very heart of them, at this elevation, are rarer still. We are not merely close to the mountain. We are of it, on its frontier, in the truest sense.

Shar Planina is a newly established National Park, created to protect the extraordinary biodiversity, glacial lakes, endemic species and ancient landscapes that define this massif. As a hotel within its boundaries, we take that responsibility seriously. Every decision we make, from construction materials to partnerships, reflects our commitment to this place and the generations who will inherit it.
We are proud partners of the mountaineering, skiing and alpinist communities, as well as the ranger and mountain rescue communities that make these mountains alive and safe. We believe that getting people onto the mountain, confidently and safely, is one of the most meaningful things a hotel can do at this altitude.
Beyond this, we nurture a deep connection with the innovative approach to the broader culture of the Shar community. Understanding the mountains as not only a gateway for visitors, but also as a serious option for livelihood. These mountains have their own history, their own people, their own rhythm, and we intend to be part of that, not apart from it.
Our restaurant transforms the act of eating after a day on the mountain into something worth anticipating. We work with seasonal, regional ingredients to offer a cuisine that is both refined and rooted, honest food that reflects the landscape outside the window. Whether you come for a long dinner or a quick warming lunch between runs, the table here is a destination in itself.
A fully equipped conference room makes Residence Shara a natural base for teams, associations, training camps and events that require both focus and altitude. We understand that the logistical and infrastructural prerequisites for anything happening on this mountain must be in place before anything else can begin, and we are built for exactly that.
Our ski room takes care of your boots, skis and gear between sessions. Our foyer is a warm, generous gathering place. Our common areas invite the kind of conversation that only happens at altitude, between people who have just come in from something beautiful.
Our accommodation consists of studio rooms, one-bedroom apartments and two-bedroom apartments, all modern, elegant and spacious, all with their own kitchens. This matters. At this altitude, with this much on offer, guests should have the liberty to choose: a long dinner at our restaurant, or a quiet evening cooking in with the peaks visible through the window. Both are equally valid. Both are equally ours to offer.

We are not simply a place to rest before heading out onto the mountain. We are part of the mountain. Residence Shara has grown alongside the hiking and trekking community of Shar Planina, a national park of extraordinary beauty, rich with ancient trails, glacial lakes, and summits that have drawn mountaineers for generations.
With every step taken on these trails, we walk the same ground where generations of mountaineers have walked before us. These are not merely paths through nature, they are living history underfoot. It was here, in the clean, thin air of Shar Planina, that the Macedonian Alpine Himalayan expedition teams prepared and trained, sharpening both body and spirit before facing the world's highest peaks. It was also here that Mr. Sashko Kedev began his preparations for Project 14x8000, his extraordinary quest to summit all fourteen peaks above 8,000 metres in the world. That tradition of ambition, endurance and love for the mountains runs through everything we do.
The air at this altitude is something you notice immediately, crisp, clean, alive. Moving through it, whether on a gentle forest trail or a demanding ridge route, is a reminder of what the body is capable of when given the right conditions. An active life in the mountains is not a retreat from the world. It is a return to it. From the routes we recommend to the people we walk alongside, we see ourselves as a living, breathing part of this landscape.
